The round, softly lit opening of a hyperbaric chamber

A session

What an hour looks like.

  1. 1

    Settle in

Phones away or on flight mode; a book is better. The door closes and the pressure rises slowly.

  2. 2

    Equalise

Ears pop like a plane descending. Swallow, yawn, pinch and blow; we show you how before you go in.

  3. 3

    Breathe

Mask on, concentrated oxygen, and nothing to do for an hour. Most people drift off.

  4. 4

    Decompress

The pressure comes off gently at the end. Give yourself ten minutes before you drive.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)?

Around an hour in a chamber pressurised to 1.5 ATA while you breathe concentrated oxygen through a mask. Many athletes and clinics use it for recovery, and it's increasingly used for general wellbeing. It's private and relaxing: you can read or listen to something.

What does it feel like?

Like a plane descending: your ears pop as the pressure rises over a few minutes. We teach you to equalise. Then it's quiet and comfortable for the session, and the pressure comes off slowly at the end.

What does it cost?

Oxygen 2 is £99 a month for two sessions, Oxygen 4 is £179 for four; extra sessions are £39 for members. On Flex, a session is three credits.

Who shouldn't use it?

Anyone with an untreated pneumothorax, certain lung conditions, a cold or sinus infection you can't equalise through, or recent ear surgery. If you're pregnant or have a heart condition, talk to your GP first. We'll go through a questionnaire before your first session.

Is it medical treatment?

No. Halo is a wellness club, not a clinic, and nothing here is a diagnosis or treatment for a medical condition unless we explicitly say so. If you've been prescribed HBOT, follow your clinician's plan.

Is there anywhere else in Brighton doing HBOT?

Hyperbaric oxygen is rare outside clinics. Ours is a private wellness chamber at 1.5 ATA, booked by the hour, with memberships from two sessions a month, so it's for regular recovery rather than a one-off.
